How to Join Indian Navy Electrical Branch:




Indian Navy warships are like mini cities floating on the sea. In this mini city usage of power is a most important thing.

All the weapons of arm force need power supply and the total power distribution system is maintained by this branch of Indian Navy.

There are mainly two different divisions in the Indian Navy Electrical Branch. They are Electrical General Services and Submarine Electricals.

You can join Indian Navy Electrical Branch through 5 different ways. These processes of joining Indian Navy are discussed below-




#1. Join Indian Navy as an Electrical (General) Service Officer:

An Electrical Officer takes responsibility to maintain the combat readiness of sophisticated Missile System, underwater system, long range sensors and advanced combat management system which employ niche technologies and complex software algorithms.

He also takes responsibility to run large power distribution network using advanced computer based power management systems.

To enhance technical acumen, the Navy sends deserving Electrical Officers for pursuing post- graduate courses in India at various IITs and also to institutes abroad.


Note: Officers of the Electrical Branches can also volunteer for the Aviation /Submarine Arm.

Technical (General Service)- Electrical (L) Exam:

Through this entry process of Indian Navy You can Join this community as an Electrical General Service Officer.

Eligibilities for this exam are-

  • Gender: Male only
  • Age: 19 ½ years to 25 years.
  • Educational Qualification: The candidates must possess at least 60% marks in BE/B Tech Degree in any one of the following stream:-


  1. Electrical
  2. Electronics
  3. Telecommunication
  4. Any other allied discipline





#2. Join Indian Navy as an Submarine Electrical Officer:

As a Submarine Electrical officer, your duty will be looking after and maintenance of high end control and weapon systems.

An submarine electrical officer gets opportunity to pursue higher studies viz. M tech in premier training institutions of India.


Technical (Submarine)- Electrical (L) Exam:

Appearing and passing in this exam you can join Indian Navy as an Electrical (submarine) officer. For this exam you should fulfil the following conditions-


  • Gender: Male only
  • Age: 19 ½ years to 25 years.
  • Educational Qualification: The candidates must possess at least 55% marks in BE/B Tech Degree in any one of the following stream:-


  1. Mechanical
  2. Electrical/Electronics
  3. Telecommunications/Communication
  4. Computer Science
  5. Control Engineering/ Control system
  6. Power/Power Electronics
  7. Equivalent qualification recognised by Institute of Engineers (India) as exempted from section 'A' and 'B' of their Associate membership examination.





#3. Join Indian Navy as an Electrical Officer through NDA/NA:

Like Indian Airforce, you can join Indian Navy after 12th science through NDA. To join NDA you have to qualify in UPSC entrance exam for NDA. Eligibility conditions for this exam are-


  • Gender: Male only
  • Age: Between 16½ years to 19 years.
  • Educational Qualification: If you have completed your 12th class or appearing with PCM, you can apply through nda.gov.in.




#4. Join Indian Navy as an Electrical Officer through 10+2 (B.Tech) Entry:

You can get a career in Indian Navy Electrical branch as Engineering branch of Indian Navy, through this entry. You are eligible for this exam if you fulfil the following conditions-



  • Gender: Male only
  • Age: Not less than 17 years and not more than 19 ½ years.
  • Educational Qualification: Passed senior secondary examination (10+2 pattern) or its equivalent from university/board with at least 70% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM) and at least 50% marks in English (either in class x or class xiii).




#5. Join Indian Navy as an Electrical Officer through UES:

You can join Indian Navy Electrical branch through UES entry too if you fulfil the following conditions-




  • Gender: Male
  • Age: Between 19 to 24 Years.
  • Educational Qualification: Final Year BE/B Tech. in Electrical. Tele-communication, Electronics Engineering, Any other allied discipline.
